Stone Mountain granite from Georgia clads the base of the building, while the upper floors of the building are finished with terra-cotta tinted to match.

The Dade County Courthouse was the tallest building south of Baltimore when completed in 1928.

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The upper nine floors were designed as a jail.

The design combines set-back massing (associated with Art Deco) with Neo-Classical details.

The building originally also served as Miami’s City Hall.
